Plants for People

The Plants for People project is a joint initiative between Mayfield Nurseries and Southampton City Council, which combines community development work with gardening to make a lasting difference to people living on social housing estates in Southampton.

Plants for People’s Community Development Worker Duncan Reade leads gardening initiatives to improve their open spaces, community connections and their positive wellbeing to create safe spaces to grow, learn and get to know their neighbours.

Participants don’t need any equipment or experience and all sessions are on a free, drop in basis. The gardening workshops are open to all ages and abilities from absolute beginners to keen gardeners.

Our projects run all the way through the year, so you can still get involved no matter what the weather. In the colder months, wrap up warm!

We are hosting our Plants for People projects in the following areas in Southampton:

Monday 1.30pm - 4.30pm
Irving Road, meeting outside block 67-125 Irving Road.
